For immediate release— December 17, 2005

Due to a TELUS issue, 9-1-1 service for the Sunshine Coast has been affected. As a result, residents are unable to directly access 9-1-1.

Members of the public in the Sunshine Coast area who are in need of emergency assistance are advised to:

Dial "0" for the operator and ask for 9-1-1
It is important for the public to know their location at all times and to communicate this to the 9-1-1 call-taker as soon as they are asked, as this information is not being automatically generated at this time due to the TELUS failure.

E-Comm provides 9-1-1 service for the Greater Vancouver Regional District, Sunshine Coast Regional District and Whistler area. E-Comm also provides emergency dispatch services for a number of police and fire departments in those areas.
